About the Fund Fundamental Policies

To carry out its mission, the Children's Fund created the Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut (CHDI) in 1998, as an independent nonprofit organization. CHDI is durable mechanism that facilitates a sustained process of reform and change in those systems and institutions that have a direct impact on the health, development and well-being of children.

The Children's Fund is a fiscal catalyst and convener, using its grant-making capacities as leverage to encourage institutional leaders to undertake systemic changes in those institutions impacting the health, development and well-being of Connecticut’s children. Doing so accelerates the application of best practices in the care of children, based on the most current and authoritative research.
