To carry out its mission, the Children's Fund created the Child Health and Development Institute of Connecticut (CHDI) in 1998, as an independent nonprofit organization. CHDI is durable mechanism that facilitates a sustained process of reform and change in those systems and institutions that have a direct impact on the health, development and well-being of children.
The Children's Fund is a fiscal catalyst and convener, using its grant-making capacities as leverage to encourage institutional leaders to undertake systemic changes in those institutions impacting the health, development and well-being of Connecticuts children. Doing so accelerates the application of best practices in the care of children, based on the most current and authoritative research.
