Innovation Fund:  Grant Award Highlights
The Innovation Fund provides financial support to local pediatric and primary health and mental health care initiatives that have implications for statewide implementation and long-term improvement of direct practice, service systems and policy.  Highlighted below are several projects previously funded through this grant program.

Enhancing Access to Mental Health Services in the Primary Care Setting
This grant to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC) supports the placement of mental health professionals in pediatric practices to address the increasing incidence of mental health conditions among children. With a four-month minimum wait time for referrals to mental health clinics, the primary objective of this project is to improve the overall quality of and access to behavioral health care for patients by providing coordination, education and access to behavioral health clinicians in the primary care clinic at CCMC.

Health Education Video on Childhood Depression
This grant to the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Connecticut Health Center supported the development, dissemination and impact evaluation of a Health Education Video on Childhood Depression for Parents and Teachers. Without quality programs and evaluative information, policymakers and schools are limited in their ability to predict the feasibility, costs and impact of launching a comprehensive health project. This initiative is designed to address weaknesses and gaps that contribute to missed opportunities for prevention, early intervention, treatment, informed citizenry and policy reform.

Preventive Mental Health Curriculum for Families of Internationally Adopted Children
The goal of this Yale University project is to implement and evaluate a preventive mental health intervention that is designed to teach parents skills that will enhance both their relationships with their adopted children and their understanding of their children’s unique vulnerabilities. The desired outcome is that the participation of parents in this intervention will improve their children’s development of both adaptive and self-regulating skills, decrease the identification of behavioral problems in their children and increase parents’ sense of satisfaction and competence in parenting.
